Bot Memo measures AI startup funding at the deal level. Every figure on our data pages comes from this dataset: 16,000+ funding rounds raised by AI companies worldwide since January 2023, each structured by company, amount, funding stage, date, investors, city, country, and sector.

What counts

A deal enters the dataset when an AI company raises disclosed venture funding: Pre-Seed through Series G+, growth rounds, and strategic investments. AI companies span four groups: AI Native products built on models, AI Augmented products that added AI capability, AI Adjacent infrastructure that supports AI workloads, and AI Platforms that train foundation models or design AI chips.

Sectors

Each company is classified into one or more of 18 industry sectors, from Health & Biotech to Developer Tools & AI Infrastructure. A company operating in two sectors counts fully in both, so sector totals describe each sector completely rather than splitting deals into fractions. Sector pages state their own deal counts.

Stages

Funding stages follow the round as announced: Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A through G+, Growth, Strategic, Debt, and Convertible. Early stage means Pre-Seed through Series B. Growth stage means Series C and later.

Geography

Companies are mapped to metro areas and countries. A company with headquarters across two cities counts fully in both, the same full-attribution rule used for sectors. City figures use metro areas, so San Francisco includes the Bay Area cities around it and New York includes its boroughs.

Amounts

All amounts are stated in US dollars. Rounds announced in other currencies are converted to US dollars at current exchange rates. Figures update monthly; every data page states the exact window it covers, for example January 2023 through June 2026.

Investors

Investor activity counts deal participation. When we say a fund participated in deals worth $2B, that is the combined size of rounds it joined, not the amount it wrote in checks.
